Solar-Powered Watering System: Currently being installed, our solar watering system is a testament to our commitment to renewable energy. Using rainwater and solar power, this system efficiently hydrates our garden while conserving resources. It’s another way we include sustainability into our lodge.

Exploring New Gardening Methods: At Lucky Dreamer Lodge, we’re always striving to improve and innovate how to best grow plants in the jungle. While some of our experiments haven’t worked out, many have yielded success.

We hope to build new raised beds with different configurations to test a variety of designs and techniques. This hands-on experimentation helps us determine the most effective ways to grow in Belize’s unique tropical climate. By exploring layouts, materials, and irrigation systems, we aim to not only enhance our garden’s productivity but also provide our guests with an immersive learning experience.

How We Grow Organically

We prioritize native and climate-adapted plants for their resilience and ability to support local ecosystems. We also experiment with non-native herbs and vegetables to diversify our garden. From basil to hot peppers, we enjoy discovering what thrives in Belize’s tropical conditions.

Natural Pest Control: To maintain a chemical-free garden, we use eco-friendly pest control methods like neem oil, companion planting, and encouraging beneficial insects. For example, planting basil next to tomatoes deters pests while attracting pollinators, ensuring the health of our garden.

Water Conservation Efforts: Mulch we make from branches using our chipper/shredder, and rainwater we collect, help conserve water and maintain soil health. These practices minimize waste and maximize the garden’s productivity year-round.
