Elijio Panti National Park (EPNP) derives its name from Dr. Elijio Panti, a revered Mayan master healer. However, the park’s journey to becoming a national treasure was not an overnight success. It all began in 1998 when a concerned group from the San Antonio community approached the Minister of Agriculture. Disturbed by the rapid destruction of the land in the area, they sought to establish a sanctuary where people could gather and protect the environment.
Their efforts bore fruit when they were granted the land. But it wasn’t until 2001 that it officially became a national park, with the name Elijio Panti National Park. This achievement was just the beginning of a long and ongoing process to showcase the park’s remarkable features and fulfill the dreams of its advocates.
